About WAP

Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) is the first global standard for Internet services over mobile phone networks. It is capable of displaying “mini websites”, which look simple when compared with normal websites but which already provide a variety of powerful services, you’ll see this when you start exploring.

With the simplest WAP browsers you can check train times, check-in for a flight, look up sports results, purchase tickets and even do your banking online. Now the majority of modern mobile phones shipped are WAP enabled with colour screens, have personal organiser software on them, are capable of connecting to the internet at faster speeds (GPRS and 3G), have cameras, play video, record and play audio and some can even receive TV.

With all these features available in one device that the majority of us carry around with us all the time, developers are constantly coming up with new ways for us to enhance our mobile lives. If you want entertainment, need infomation, just like exploring or want to communicate within global social networks, you can now do all these while on the move.

The best way to see what WAP or the mobile internet’s about is to start exploring it. The first view most users tend to get of WAP is that provided by their mobile network’s portal. This will be fine for a while but will usually involve being subjected to the content that your mobile network wants you to have. To get the most out of your exploring, sometimes you have to get out of the garden. To get another angle on what’s out there, add Click4WAP to your mobile bookmarks (http://wap.click4wap.com) and see what we have on the menu. If you want to explore more we have a directory where all the major WAP search engines can be accessed from.

For more detailed information on WAP including some technical aspects of the WAP protocol, I’ve put a short list of links together below to some of the more informative internet resources on the subject of WAP and general mobile internet stuff.
