As of version 8.3, Local no longer supports 32-bit Windows versions. You can read more about Local&#8217;s minimum requirements <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/localwp.com\/help-docs\/getting-started\/installing-local\/#minimum-requirements\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-609128818ae7343db4a721542e733228\" id=\"running-local-as-administrator\" style=\"color:#000000\"><strong>Running Local as Administrator<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Running an application like Local as an administrator gives it elevated privileges that can sometimes resolve issues where Local might be blocked by a security or permissions setting. Sometimes the permissions for this file are set to Read Only mode. Below are some of the most common with links to their documentation for troubleshooting. Check the links below for the URLs and ports Local uses, and share this information with your IT department to make the most of Local.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/localwp.com\/help-docs\/getting-started\/installing-local\/#allowing-local\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Allowing Local<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/localwp.com\/help-docs\/advanced\/router-mode\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Router Mode<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-f68d2f9e31db435a86f2c91483842698\" id=\"allow-local-to-make-changes\" style=\"color:#000000\"><strong>Allow Local to Make Changes<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your device will ask for permission whenever Local needs to make changes to certain things outside of the app. For example, when adding or removing sites or editing domains, Local needs to update the hosts file and SSL certificates on your device. You\u2019ll need to watch for these prompts and let the device know that you are allowing Local to proceed. If you\u2019re not seeing prompts like the ones below, then something may be blocking access (see other sections of this article). This user resolved the problem by correcting some broken PATH variables on their machine. Follow the hyperlink above for their helpful guide with screenshots for more information. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-1fcafa44fb6c965f63320e92bd27d498\" id=\"performance-issues\" style=\"color:#000000\"><strong>Performance Issues<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Due to differences in the file system and firewalls, some Windows users have reported issues with the Local app as well as slow site performance. Thankfully, there are some tips and tricks to get around these pesky Windows-specific issues:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>What domain suffix is your site using?<\/strong> Some users have seen significant speed improvements by changing their site domain from .local to another value (.abc for example). The site domain can be set during site creation or edited after the site has been created. A global default for new sites can be set in Local\u2019s Preferences.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>What folder is your site saved in?<\/strong> Some users have seen significant speed improvements by moving their site out of the default path (C:\\Users\\{user-name}\\Local Sites) and placing the site in another folder. This file path can be set during site creation. We have a post in the forums <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/community.localwp.com\/t\/slow-performance-using-mariadb-on-windows\/42141\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a><\/strong><\/span> for users to vote, comment or follow along. The workaround is simply to create a new user without any special characters or spaces, and then you should be able to proceed.
