Local uses Mailpit<\/a> to capture emails sent from a site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More specifically, any email that is sent using the PHP mail() function<\/a> will be captured. Because WordPress’ wp_mail()<\/a> function uses mail()<\/code> under-the-hood, you can test emails for a site without actually sending them to the end user.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can get a feel for using Mailpit by resetting the password for a WordPress user:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Ensure you are logged out of the WP admin and that the “One-click Admin” setting is set to “off”<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Navigate to the WordPress login screen by clicking the “WP Admin” button<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Click the “Lost your password?” link<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Provide either the username or email<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Within Local, click the “Tools > Mailpit > Open Mailpit” button<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Review the emails that were captured by Mailpit!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
